    OK, here's the deal....

When we initially installed Windows 2000, we set it with a hostname of king. At the time, this was OK. However, the hostname needed to be changed to mail so that the accounts we are hosting on IIS could resolve mail.domain.com back to the mailserver. My DNS records currently have a record in there that point mail.domain.com to xxx.xxx.xxx.4, which is where the mail server resides. The problem is it cannot find the host "mail ", but it can find the host "king ", even though I changed the computer name for our webserver to "mail ". I guess what i'm trying to ask is, is there a way to completely synchronize win2k server so that any instance of king (the old hostname) is changed to mail (the new hostname)?? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The name of the server doesn't need to change. Just configure another host record in DNS with the name you want for this server and put in the same IP address. You can keep the old record too.
For example. www.windows-help.net is also mail.windows-help.net is also windows-help.net.
They look like they are different servers, but if you do an nslookup, they are in fact the same server. The actual name of the server doesn't match any of those names either.
