    Hi guys,
I'm upgrading the wife's computer to 10 before the free offer is gone. When I started (yesterday morning) it took forever, but it made it up to 99% done, then hung there for hours. It never did finish because a summer storm knocked out the power for a second. I rebooted it and started the process again. Again, it got to 99% and hung. A Google search told me this was somewhat normal and I should just wait it out. Well, I've been waiting for over 24 hours now. On another machine, I used the MS tool to create an ISO and burned it to a DVD. My question is, can I use this DVD to upgrade her machine and still get it free?

Hi Blufx. Yes you can. Simply perform a clean install of Windows 10 if you need to and when you need to activate Windows 10, type in your Windows 7 product key and Windows 10 will use that key to activate Windows 10. More information here, Activation in Windows 10.

Thanks for that info. I just got her this machine and this is one of the few times I've wanted to upgrade rather than a clean install. That's because it's an HP 20" touch screen and it has lots of touch stuff for her to play with. I'm assuming the DVD will offer me the choice. I'm getting on it now. I'll find out soon.

That worked like a charm. Smooth install and it never asked for a product key. Computer properties says it's activated. I'm happy. Thanks.

And now you can use ProduKey and locate the new product key on your Windows 10 computer.

One more question. The wife messed up the Windows 10 so bad, I restored it back to Windows 7. Will it still allow me to upgrade for free using the DVD I created?

Yes. Since you already activated Windows 10, you can just install it again and it will activate with no problem.
