When my computer boots up it goes to a screen that says boot disc not recognized, try again (or something like that), I've tried the obvious solution like replacing the battery on the motherboard, didn't fix the problem. Problem started when I used PCMover to transfer the SSD to a spare computer, transfer went smoothly, but when I put a new SSD in my computer and did a clean install of Windows 10 and tried to transfer everything back to my computer it transferred everything from the spare computer to my clean install. Finally removed everything from the spare computer, reset my passwords from all my websites, reinstalled the software on my computer, everything works fine except when I first boot it up it gives me the massage described above, if I get into the BIOS setting and load the optimized setup it will boot OK but the next time I try to restart it it gives me the same message above. I've found that when it fails to restart I can power it down, wait about 30 seconds and it will boot normally. Any suggestions, I'm guessing the MBR got corrupted during the transfer but have no idea how to fix it. I've tries a system restore point I set up when I did the new Windows install, didn't help. I had cloned the old SSD to an external HDD but it's worthless for anything except for the old files I had saved on it, a few but not many programs did transfer over and work OK. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (please <G>)

    Have you tried Troubleshoot?
    Settings > System > Troubleshoot.

I've tried everything I can think off, forcing it to reboot into troubleshooting mode by turning the power supply off 3 times, 3rd time it went into repair mode, tried every advanced option it offered me, nothing helped. I even tried loading windows until it got to the repair this PC option, that didn't work either. I've loaded windows on another SSD and it reboots normally. I did try using PCMover to transfer a program from the spare computer and it works fine.I know what the tech support guy from PCMover did wrong, they don't tell you that you don't want to transfer the user account, that's what messed everything up on the computer I use, that and several advanced options in PCMover need to be cleared before doing the transfer from the spare computer back to the one I use all the time, pretty sure I know how to do it correctly now where all the software will transfer to the one I use. Right now I'm doing everything on the other SSD I loaded windows on, it's gonna take me forever to get the other SSD set up, when 'm satisfied everything is working right I'll clone it back to a new Samsung SSD I bought, I trust the Samsung more than I do than the Team Group SSD I bought to put in a laptop.

Right now I'm using a program called Recover My Files I've had for years to recover a 16TB hard drive that had been messed up a long time, figured if I'm gonna revive my computer I may as well get everything straightened out, used it in the past and it works great, just takes forever on a large drive.

Can't mark it solved yet but pretty sure what I'm doing now is gonna work, probably be a few days more before I know for sure but appreciate you responding to me, I noticed 56 people looked at my thread, you're the first to respond

Thought I'd update this, still straightening out a few bugs but nearly everything is finally working including setting up my Windows Live Email which was a beast to do, my ISP server kept timing out on me about every 20 or 30 minutes, took me a while (as in about 3 hours or so) to figure out what was happening, it would be importing my emails then quit downloading them. it didn't transfer them using PCMover so have it importing everything from my ISP's server, got a lot of saved things like my bank account records, brokerage account records, etc. I'm using the Team Group SSD I bought. One disadvantage to PCMover is when you put in a new SSD it sees it as a new computer and won't allow you to use it, have to call tech support, explain the problem and they'll reset the activation so it's usable again, so far I've had to go thru this 4 or 5 times. In the past I've always just copied everything from the old SSD to the new one and never had any problems. PCMover is what messed up my MBR when I let one of their support guys get access to remotely control everything, messed it up big time, last time I'll use it, it has potential if used right but unless you're very familiar with using it it can create a lot of problems. I won't mark it as solved yet even though it's 90% working with a few things left to do
which is gonna take a little more time. Also if anyone has used the Team Group SSD's I'm curious how they compare vs Samsung, I've used Samsung's for years with no problems, the Team Group SSD's carry a 3 year warranty so figure they must be fairly good.

I finally had to do a Windows reset keeping all files and programs, backed up the SSD first, naturally the computer wouldn't reboot while I was doing the backup so I lost my Windows Live emails and several other programs so having to reinstall them, but after working on this computer so long I count that as a win. Pucker factor was high doing the reset since I've never had to do this on any computer I've owned since bought my original IBM PC when they first came out so it was new to me. I'm gonna mark this SOLVED !!!!!

Forgot to add, I wound up doing the system reset on the original SSD that had the restart problem, wanted to try it because I had nothing to lose by trying it and wanted to keep as many programs and files as possible.

Hey there! Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your computer. I had a similar issue before, and I found out that it was because of the Master Boot Record (MBR) being corrupted. Since you already tried the obvious solutions, have you considered repairing the MBR? You can do this by using the Windows installation media and entering the command prompt to run some commands. You can look up some guides online for more specific instructions. On another note, I recently had to reinstall Windows 10 on my own computer and had trouble finding a product key.

Thanks for the suggestions, I've already solved my problem by using the windows reset method (similar to installing Windows but using the setting to keep all files and programs). It was definitely a MBR problem, if you'll read my second reply above you'll see what caused my problems.Hope you get your Windows license number straightened out, I've installed Windows in the past by using my Hotmail account, legal and no need to use a serial number.
