    Hello,
The "My Computer" window keeps popping up whenever I boot up the computer in XP Home. It just started doing this and I can't seem to find out why? It is the same window you would get displayed if you double clicked on the My Computer icon. Why does it pop up every time I start the computer?
    Thanks--Gene

Does it open, by any chance, to the System32 folder? If so, see if the MS KB article, System32 Folder Opens When Logging on to Windows, has the fix.

If it's not the System32 folder, that page may give you ideas where to start to fix the problem.

Checked all that and registry appears to be fine--no it is not the sytem32 folder just the my computer folder showing all the drives etc.

Did you try a System Restore?

Somewhere I saw a Tweak to open My Comp like that, and if I can remember where it was, maybe we can work backwards.

    Good morning!
I found out what was causing the window to pop up. I have IE in my startup folder and somehow the path to where it is got corrupted after I had done a windows update, so the system was searching for IE and popped up the my computer folder (it always started with the search flashlight). I reset the correct path and now everything works as before.
    Thanks again:)

I don't know if this is what you're referring to, Johanna, but placing "%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n," in the target window of a Windows Explorer shortcut will cause Explorer to open a duplicate of the "My Computer" window ... a single-pane window showing all the drives, removable storage devices, and imaging devices (scanners and cameras), by category.

Adding " /e," to the string (%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n, /e,) will cause Explorer to open a two-pane window with the same display as above in the right pane and the system tree in the left.

This same two-pane display can be generated in the "My Computer" window (or any other single-pane Explorer window) by the menu selection of View > Explorer Bar > Folders. Conversely, a two-pane window can be made single-pane by unchecking Folders, or by clicking on the X in the upper right corner of the left pane.
