Hi Guys, I have a Navman Sat Nav which I need to plug into my computer to update but my computer will not recognise it when I connect it by USB, I have tried it on a friends Windows XP and it works fine, I have tried several USB leads and plugged it into every USB port on the computer!

Does anything work in any of the USB ports? Have you looked in Device Manager to see if there are any USB problems?

Yes Mr Bill all the other ports recognise most of my USB plugins but not this one, what I do not understand is why does the XP computer recognise it straight away?

Is the program that you have with it compatible with Win 7?

Not sure if this is the same exact issue but lately, (past month 9/2012 to present) I have seen USB flash drives and Wireless usb mouse (even keyboards) that are detected but don't install the drivers. If it is the same issue, I have only seen it on newer Win7 machines and they have mostly all been Dell machines. I don't know if it is a windows update that is doing it or Dell. Anyway ---

Here is a fix a guy at work gave me and it is relatively simple and works.
Have the device plugged in and go into device manager.
If Device manager shows a device plugged in but has the yellow circle /exclamation point, right click on that device.
    Click 'Update driver'.
Click the option to browse to a location
In the location type this: c:\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository
Click next/ok and Win7 will search the many subdirectories in that directory.
A window will pop up saying Windows cannot identify the publisher of the driver.
    Click to install anyway.
It should find a driver for the device.
If more devices pop up with circle / exclamations, perform the same procedure.

I hope this works for you.

Please let me know how it goes. I have had a hard time finding resolution on this topic before this and had mixed success before my co-worker offered this solution.
