I get this message every so often. It usually happens for a couple days and then I don't see anything for a week or two. It's popped up 3 times in the last two days when I start Firefox. If somebody could take a look at my logs and tell what to do, I would appreciate it!

    Hi MinnesotaMike

I'm not seeing anything that shows winantivirus.

Lets run a on-line scan and see if anything shows up. It may speed things up if you disable AVG7 while doing the scan.

    Kaspersky WebScanner

    Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
    • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    • Now click on Scan Settings
    • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
      • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
      • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
        Scan Mail Bases
    • Click OK
    • Now under select a target to scan:
      • Select My Computer
    • This will program will start and scan your system.
    • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
    • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
      • Now click on the Save as Text button:
    • Save the file to your desktop.
    • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

    Hi Geri,

Thanks for looking and here is the scan report. It will be in a couple posts since it's too long for one. I looked at some of them and Kaspersky doesn't seem to like emails from eBay. Some email addresses have been changed by me. This seems to be the infection it finds: Trojan-Spy.HTML.Bayfraud.ib

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Mike

    Well in all of that...

    Number of viruses found: 2
    Bayfraud.ib and Paylap.ev

These are all in your Thunderbird mail box, you need to purge all your mail boxes.

Then I would also edit/delete those lasts posts, to many email addresses to have sitting around here.

Still no sign of winantivirus though.

Lets run this. It will more then likely tell you no files found, but it may target some files from winantivirus that combofix didn't see.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
    • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
    • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
    • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

If it gives you a log post it.

Then run this please and post the main log only for now.

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
    • Close all other windows before proceeding.
    • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
    • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

    Thanks
    Geri

    Geri,

I will delete the last few posts and do the things you suggest. It might be a day or two, but I'll get to them. Thanks.

    Geri,

Okay, here is the VundoFix log and a new HJT log. VundoFix did not find any files. In the next post, I will include the DSS logs. I'll put both since you mention posting the main and then both. Thanks.

    Mike

    Hi MinnesotaMike
Well still no signs of winantivirus.:(

You can delete the tools you downloaded. DSS, Vundo, ComboFix. There will be newer versions if ever needed again any way.

You have a number of old Java Versions.
Old versions of java are exploitable and should be removed.
I believe this is the latest version.
Java version 6 Update 2 The rest should be removed from your add/remove list.

I was told to recommend that you run the free trial of counterspy.

    http://research.sunbelt-software.com/download.aspx

This has to do with all the emails you had in your Kaspersky scan. they may or may not be legit.

Have you done a search for winantivirus? maybe it will show up in a search? It's sure is not showing in any logs.

Click on Start "“ Search "“ All Files and Folders "“ Put,( winantivirus ) in "All or part of the file name" spot. Scroll down and click on "More advanced options" Put a check on "Search system foldersâ€, Search hidden files and Folder" Search SubFolders. Click Search.

Let me know if it finds anything.

    Geri,

I removed the 3 programs you had me install and the old versions of Java. Since they updated, I never thought to remove the old versions. Before the last scans, I cleaned out my email accounts, deleted all backups, and started with a new backup. I also did a search for winantivirus before my first post here and found nothing. I installed counterspy and it only found 5 cookies that I had it remove.

Strange that I get those pop ups every so often though. I have gotten any since the last 3, but that isn't unusual. I could go another couple weeks before seeing it again. Unless you have any other suggestions, I won't worry about things unless they become more frequent. Thanks for all your help.

    Mike
