well, they said it couldn't be done. if you reinstall windows you cannot uninstall internet explorer. looked like everyone was right.

i'd already upgraded IE to 5.01, and reinstalled win98se, so i was not able to uninstall it. the uninstall info packet had been lost. and then i checked the registry. only to find many entries for IE 4. removing any of these entries causes win98se to go kablooey. BSoD becomes your number one screen item. <chuckle> and you must re-install windows.

i was determined it would not be so. i've got a good setup here, and desire to keep it. not much goes on my "C:\" drive. and i like it like that.

well, i uninstalled netmeeting, outlook express, and internet explorer 5.01. then i edited the registry using regedit. and deleted every key i could find with any reference to netmeeting, outlook express, and especially internet explorer. their were still entries from IE 4.0. no matter, i took them all out.

i had already downloaded the latest version of IE to install at a later date. now was the time. i ran smartdrv /c to clear the cache, and installed IE 6.00.2800.1106
it went in like a charm. my registry has the program files entry pointing to "D:\Program Files ". IE installed itself and outlook express to the D: drive. now was the time for truth. i ran smartdrv /c again just prior to rebooting and crossed my fingers as i hit the windows key> U > R and waited for her to reboot. what a mess! the speakers came out with loud horrendous beeping. she crashed the explorer.exe, the system tray, and just sat there frozen. i hit the power button and rebooted. on the third reboot, she was fine. i've checked the device manager, the internal settings and the logs. she's running like a charm.

i checked in "C:\windows\program files" for the internet explorer folder and the outlook express folder. outlook express was not there. and the internet explorer folder on the c: drive only has one entry, the uninstall info file. <chuckle>

I AM INVINCIBLE! <big ole grin> i've done what everyone else says is not possible. micro$oft insists you will need to re-install windows. every tech site i've been to says the same thing.

it can be done. yes, it can be done.

want to hear the killer? i came to this website, and registered so i could post and get some help with this issue. but the board is setup for a response from email. and i had no email program installed. i came here between uninstalling outlook express and deleting IE. <chuckle> so i thought i'd come back, and let you all know that you can totally delete IE from windows98se and recover the platform. yes, it can be done. <big ole grin>

    well, till another day,

    Have A Lot Of Fun!
