I`ve just noticed that the AM/PM adjustment on my system time settings is now greyed out,and I`m also getting "clock error" messages on MS Windows Update site(so no updates)-have I been got at,and any idea how to restore them? Thanks!

May just need a battery. Go into the BIOS and reset the date/time and see if it retains it over a few shutdowns. Try Windows Update while correct time is diplayed.

I discovered that the time settings were set to the 24 hr clock, but(unless it`s the default) not by me! All corrected now- BTW,don`t MS recognize 24 hr time? Thanks anyway!

perkin--Thanks for posting back. Fascinating. My PC runs on Win98FE and I do not seem to have the ability to set a 24hr. clock. Not that I would want to, but you would think this would be a desired setting in many parts of the world.

Hmm, never noticed but same here Welchjim. Strange indeed.

Edit: Yep Zander. One of those places that never gets looked at.

You've probably got the option; just need to look in the right place. ;) Control Panel>Regional Settings>Time

Zander--Gadzooks!! A third place to play with "Time ". Although I did not see a straightforward way of setting a 24 hr. clock, perhaps fiddling with the various hour, minute, seconds settings would do it.
But still interesting that applying the 24 hr. clock seems to foul up Windows Update.
    Thanks.

When you're viewing the window with the time arrow, click the down arrow in the box with the time format and select either H:mm:s or HH:mm:s. Either one should give you 24 hour time.
