What does Win98SE have that Win98FE does not have that allows it to run USB 2.0 devices? Is there a way to add whatever it is w/o installing WinSE?

And if not, where can one find the SE upgrade $89 version? But must state that I am afraid to try to upgrade because my Dell computer w/ updates will not even recognize the Win98FE disk that came with it, must be something to do with the way Dell installed Win98FE on my computer. With the computer they send me a pack of installation disks, diagnostic disks, etc., of which I have little knowledge of how to use them.

    Thanks,

    Marvin

    Win98 support for USB 2.0

Reboot, thanks for info, thought that Win98SE supported USB 2.0. If I understand you correctly USB 2.0 will work on Win98FE if the manufacturer of the USB card provides support for the USB card. Is this correct? I am using Win98FE with the old USB 1.0? but would like to add an USB external hard drive, but it requires USB 2.0 support.

That's basically it. If you have a USB2.0 addon card, then the manufacturer of that card must have drivers available for your operating system. If you didn't get USB2.0 drivers for Win9x with your external drive, it will (probably) never work.
Because USB2.0 is relatively new, manufacturer's are only probably going to support XP, and Win2k (maybe).
I doubt if you'll ever get USB2.0 drivers for Win9x/ME.
