Can anyone tell me why it asks for a password when i try to access my computer (on win2k) from my brothers computer (on win98) and how i can get round this, also anything like a link to a step by step guide on how to set up the most effective network would be a real help

    cheers!:D

Win98 uses 2 types of network sharing. user based and share based. Win2k only uses user based.
user based sharing means you must have a valid user account on the system you are accessing in order to access a file / share / printer.
Meaning, from your Win98 system, you must have MS networking installed and logged on as a user. (say the users name is Joe).
Joe must have a user account on the Win2k system, and the passwords should match between the two.
If you don't have a valid username on the Win2k system you are accessing, you will be prompted with $IPC login password.
You will never guess this password, so don't even try.
The work around if you are not worried about security is to enable guest access on your win2k system. This will allow any unauthenicated users access to your Win2k system.
