Win98 ME No mouse pointer

I had a problem once with a computer that didn't showed a mouse pointer and i had to format like all the ppl i've know that had this problem, recently i had a computer with the same problems (i fix computers) and i ran a virus scan and spyware scan but had no luck in bringing back the cursor, which will only be visible in safe mode, so i found a thread in this forum that ended up formatting, but i finally got a solution and the mouse came back this is what I did hopefully it'll help if you guys have this problem.

this i got from microsoft:

1. Remove the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Mouse\<nnnn>
where <nnnn> is an incremental four-digit number starting at 0000.

I didn't remove the <nnnn> four digit number but i deleted the whole HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Mouse\ key complete

2. Remove the following registry keys, if they exist:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\Root\Mouse\<nnnn>
where <nnnn> in an incremental four-digit number starting at 0000.

I deleted i similar key named SWRNUM again the complete key
3. Remove all registry keys under the following registry key, if they exist:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\Serenum

this one i deleted the whole Logitech key
4. Remove the following registry key, if it exists:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Logitech\Mouseware

after that i rebooted the computer and took the folowing steps

Went to control panel and double clicked add remove hardware icon, asked that windows detected my mouse automatically but it didn't so I added manually selecting the "other devices" option, and from the drivers section i selected an option called "standard mouse" and selected mine which was ps2 mouse it warned me that it wasn't compatible with what i had installed but i clicked next, after it completed several errors came up which froze my computer and made me restart it manually.

After The system restarted the mouse was working 100% fine.

try a serial mouse if you can find one
If not next try a ub mouse
Most logitech now come as a usb mouse with a ps2 adapter
I would also set the bios to factory defaults

apparently you haven't had this problem, the mouse works in safe mode, but it doesn't work in normal mode, even if you use any type of mouse or brand,, and it has nothing to do with the bios, i believe this problem occurs because of a spyware problem, i am not sure or if it is just a registry corruption problem the thing is that not even a registry repair utility can repair this problem, make some research about it.

 

Did you attempt to remove the mouse in Device Manager first then rebooting to see if it fixed the problem?

 

Yes i did, in fact i uninstalled the drivers only and rebooted, but when it detected the mouse it installed drivers, asked me to reboot and back in windows again no mouse showed up. Hope the information i posted originally is helpful if you or a friend runs into the same problem.
