Trying to install Win98SE on an old laptop, it freezes at "please wait while setup initializes ".

This is odd, since the disk STILL boots on other machines.

On the old laptop, I was booting with a DOS and later a Win95 boot floppy and the install files copied to hard drive (there is no internal CD on this laptop so the CD can't be booted on it).

Naturally I tried making BIOS settings neutral, etc etc. No luck no matter the changes. Ran ScanDisk from the 98 insteall dir; no problems.

What can make it freeze at this point?

    Hi stellinger,
The Windows CD or the HDD taken out of the laptop and put into the same (laptop) model.

I have a feeling that it uses a "recovery" CD and you are using a Windows CD.
