We have an older PC ruiing 98SE at the office which is used by our workshop technician, which is periodically hanging. It deosn't seem to matter what programs he's running, or indeed if he's running anything. There was a simialr probelm before, which was resolved for a little while by disabling all the power saving settings on the PC (both Windows and BIOS), since I read somewhere that the two settings can cause odd problems.

The PC does not have internet e-mail access, and is running the latest AV update. Is this a hardware problem (PC finally eating dirt) or is it a settings I missed somewhere, or something else?

How often does the periodically hanging happen?

What does it take to "un" hang it?

The only way to "un "-hang the PC is to turn it off by holding the power button for =/- 5 secs, or simply pull the plug (always works in under 1 second flat! :D)

Operating time before freezing is approximately 5 minutes, consistently.

I swear I'm more experienced than my probelms show - honest!
