I have been told to delete scanreg.exe, scanreg.ini, both in windows\command and windows\options\cabs. Also sysedit.exe in winsdows\system and keyhook.dll in mscan\msoffice\Iplus. The reason is they are associated with Nok No & Net Bus viruses. Since they are not in the locations cited by McAfee are they MS OS files? Thank you

Does your Antivirus program detect viruses in these files ?
If so, it would normally remove them or isolate them.
    regards

Your Sysedit.exe may not be the MS Sysedit.exe and, if not, will probably have been introduced when Keyhook.dll was introduced.

You could examine the files' property sheets and compare them with those on your Win98 CD.

I wouldn't bother. I'd kill the whole shooting match and restore the originals from the Win98 CD.

It's probably worthwhile searching for scanreg.vbs as well and, if found, strangle that while you're at it.

Very first thing you do: Update McAfee, and scan your hard drive. Make note of what cannot be cleaned, and let us know. Note that simply deleting keyhok.dll may not be sufficient to delete the virus, or even removing it from the recycle bin after. Best to let McAfee deal with it automatically.

The versions in windows\options\cabs were created by the manufacturer when installing an OEM version of Win98. Copy the files to where Microsoft says they should be (I would recommend a gogle search for the specific files, as I don't have a win98 PC to check this on), agreeing to overwrite any versions that already exist in those locations. These 2 steps combined should fix any problems.

BTW Who exactly advised you to delete these files?
