    Here's a weird one.

We have 3 Win98 clients accessing a Lan on a 2000 hybrid domain (w2K Server acting as PDC emulator, DHCP, DNS, and WINS, but with a backup NT4 BDC WINS for the 98 clients). We've had this setup for over a year now and everything has worked fine. About 3 weeks ago, the 3 Win98 clients started spontaneously losing their connection to the domain. About mid-way through the day, mapped drives disappear, and loss of connection to the PDC is gone. Logging off and back on does not work, and in fact, the user's account is locked out. Unlocking the accounts and a reboot will correct the problem, but none of this makes sense. We've done all the troubleshooting of the hardware imagineable, replacing nics, cables, port hubs, repunching jacks, and it still keeps happening.

Anyone out there with any ideas?

    Are you using vredir.vxd version 4.10.2154 (Win98) or 4.10.2229 (Win98SE) or later?

These are all Win98SE, though they all state the vredir.vxd version as 4.10.2222, not 4.10.2229 as you stated. I've never heard of the vredir.vxd, what is it?

It's the Microsoft network client redirector used in network communications. A later version is available only on request from MS (not a public hotfix). See 278558

Thanks Unixfan. Your information led me to learn about the vredir.vxd, which led me to this article about the Autodisconnect feature in Win2K. That solved the problem. Apparently our Autodisconnect was set to 15 minutes....
