I've been running 32bit RC on a Dell Precision for a few weeks now, and apart from one minor catastrophe where I tried to move some files that Microsoft really don't like you moving (so my own fault!), and a "hack" to get my Netgear SC101 NAS working, it's all gone/going really well.

Networking (to all my XP Pro PC's) is good, speed is good, compatibility (for what I am using it for) is good, GUI is OK, and I'm getting used to it all again after skipping Vista and being out of I.T. for a couple of years and "losing touch ", so here's my question...

I'm in the market for a new laptop. When do the more informed members of the forum think we are likely to start seeing OEM's such as Dell and HP offering machines running Win7? I know (I think!) an actual release date is not cast in stone yet, but do OEM's usually get first bite of the cherry when it comes to releasing systems with a new OS? I could do with a machine now, but I'd rather not buy one with Vista and then have to pay out again for an upgrade to Win7 if OEM releases are metaphorically just round the corner.

    What does everyone think?

    Andy.

You could start seeing the OEM's offering Vista machines with a free upgrade to Windows 7 starting in the next two months.

Windows 7 will most likely be released around August-October.

Thanks Arie; that's kind of what I was hoping to hear! I can hold out for a few months, but the old P4 Latitude is straining under Adobe CS4 applications now, and I keep filling the dinky 60Gb HDD up too.

I seem to spend more time on (laptop) PC maintenance these days that I do being productive, so it's time for a decent hardware upgrade.
