I have a friends computer that came with Win7 Home Premium 64bit. She would like to run Win XP Home on it instead, however I have run into a brick wall it seems. The motherboard is a Foxconn H-RS880-uATX and it would seem there are no XP drivers for the board to be found. Is it possible to use Win7 32bit drivers instead of XP drivers? I have done this in the past with older OS's but am not certain this will work this time.

    Drivers for what hardware?
That's a motherboard made by Foxconn for HP/Compaq. Get the drivers at their site.
Individual drivers can be obtained at the device manufacturer site (lan, modem, video, audio, etc). But get the chipset drivers at the HP/Compaq sites.

I looked at both places and cannot seem to find any XP drivers only Win7 drivers and need to know if they will work backwards as some of the other drivers in the past have.

It's possible that the driver packs contain folders for XP as well as win 7. What model is the comp?

You'll have to obtain the drivers at the individual manufacturers' sites.
    The hardware specs are here:
    H-RS880-uATX (Aloe) motherboard

For example, the XP graphics drivers for that comp are here:
    ATI Radeon 4200

The Windows 7 drivers at HP support do not contain XP drivers in the packages.

It took me a while to get used to Windows 7, now I wouldn't be without it, but everyone to there own. I would not be surprised if microsoft end support for XP in a few years time when the next version of windows comes out so in order to stay secure on-line a change is advisable.

Anyway, back to your problem of drivers, I think TonyT has summed it up in post 6. That link to the mobo details has a lot of other links within it that should help you find the drivers you need. It will just be an investigation job to track them down.

    Best of luck:).

Something that may work is view similar systems at HP and see if XP drivers are available for them. There will be several systems that use the same MB and hardware, probably older ones from a year or two three ago that came with Vista.

Microsoft have already announced XP's EOL (End Of Life). XP's Extended Support End date has been set at 08/04/2014, so you could 'enjoy' the past for another 3+ years.

As far as I can make out the SM Bus controller is part of the chipset driver which I guess you already have.

Look on the MB for other printed info. Unfortunately, the h-rs880 is a name given by HP and is nowhere to be found at the foxconn site.

Before you launch into an install of XP I would strongly recommend that you make an image of the Win 7 drive as I guess you do not have a full install DVD.

You can use Windows Backup or third party software to achieve this and if all goes pear shaped with the XP install you may have a way back to 7.

The AMD site does not have any drivers for the 785G series. This MB is probably made exclusively for OEMs. They do have drivers for the 780G though which may work:

If you could find the chipset, you could try to load generic drivers for that chipset & see if it works. Basic Chipset drivers are more or less same across manufacturers.

    Oops.
