The various versions of Parite also known as pinfi are network aware and will copy across mapped drives and network shares.
You get this from P2P fileswapping and downloading from crack and warez sites or networking to an infected drive or computer.

Fortunately it appends itself (adds on ) to exe and scr (screensaver) rather than replacing or permanently damaging them.

If you must use P2P file sharing, make sure you have an up to date firewall and antivirus running at all times. Make sure you do not open any file you download this way until it has been quarantined for a week (long enough for new antivirus definitions to be released) then manually scan the file again.
Same with email attachments, do not open until you verify that it was sent to you intentionally and you have manually scanned it.

I don't use P2P file sharing, or for that matter have downloaded anything in the last few days.

    1. Make sure that you have all windows updates.

    2. Make sure you have a firewall to prevent self installing network aware viruses from seeing your computer in the first place.

    3. Make sure you have an up to date antivirus, and anti trojan and anti spyware program and keep them up to date and use them.
    Avast free antivirus
Sygate personal firewall on right is free for personal use
    Spybot search and destroy
    A Squared trojan remover

    4. Since you have had the virus for an undetermined amount of time, you should set your antivirus to scan removable media and drives on access and to scan files on opening.

    5. I strongly advise against using the preview pane in Outlook express or other mail clients. View/layout/ preview pane and disable it.
Do not open email you do not recognize, spam contains unique identifiers (Bugnosis] invisible gifs with a unique identifier , and there are many html enabled viruses which can install if you view the email in a preview pane or open it.

    6. Save all downloads and attachments. Do not open attachments until you have contacted the sender and verified that they sent it and what it contains. Scan manually with antivirus prior to opening.
Downloads , other than from well known sites , likewise should be saved at least a week (one definition update of antivirus) and manually scanned prior to opening.
