[Resolved] Win32/re-directs/generic host process error

Hello, I've been having problems for about a week now. I'm running Windows XP Standard SP2 on a Dell PC.

At first, I would get the "Win32 Generic Host Process Error" when using Outlook 2007. It would force a shutdown of Outlook, then restart. On the same day, Firefox (3) would close on it's own, and then Windows would give an option to send an error report and then restart the application. I also noticed on that same day that when I would search for something using Google through Firefox, if I clicked on any of the search results, I would be re-directed to a random website. A few times, it was a Nationwide Insurance site.

Because of the Win32 issue, it seemed like a Windows problem, so I ran the Office Diagnostics that come with Office 2007. It found no problems. Then I went online to the Windows Update Center and did the system scan to see if I was missing an update. Nothing was missing besides SP3, and the machine was fine for a year without it, so I didn't install for now.

So then because of the re-direct issue, I started scanning for a virus. Through Norton SystemWorks Premier (edition 11.0), I ran a full system scan with fully updated definitions, as well as a scan through Norton's online Symantec Security Check tool. Through all of that, Norton found nothing.

Then I tried running Kaspersky's free online virus scanner, and that found nothing. I tried running Malwarebytes' free trial virus scanner (both deep and quick scans), and that found nothing.

• Paste the text you have copied using CRTL and V, into the textbox
• Click the Query button

Thank you for the reply, but the issue was resolved through a premium service from Norton. Because the machine having the problem is in an office, I didn't have much choice than to follow direction and pay for the service.
