This happens almost every other day or in 3-4 days, there is no cycle to it. Everything including the mouse freezes, I can only turn it off. After I reboot I check the Event Viewer. In System log I see this message:
    Event Type: Error
    Event Source:Server
The value named IRPStackSize in the server's Registry key LanmanServer\Parameters was invalid. The value was ignored, and processing continued.
    Data:
    0000: 57 00 00 00 W...

and in Application Log I get these 3 entries:
    Event Type: Error
    Event Source:WinMgmt
    Description:
WMI ADAP was unable to load the perfproc.dll performance library due to an unknown problem within the library: 0x0

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source:WinMgmt
    Description:
WMI ADAP was unable to load the winspool.drv performance library due to an unknown problem within the library: 0x0

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source:WinMgmt
    Description:
WMI ADAP was unable to load the w3ctrs.dll performance library due to an unknown problem within the library: 0x0
These 3 messages are always there after a freeze.
My PC is IBM Netvista A40, Duron 750, 256MB, 30G disk, DVD-ROM, CD-Witer, S3 Inc. Savage4 8MB AGP video card, Accton 10/100 NIC, 56K modem and the OS is upgraded from Me.
    Any ideas?? :(

    Brett,

Thanks for your help. I read those support sites and I issued these commands:

    winmgmt /clearadap
    winmgmt /resyncperf -p XXX
hoping all will be OK, however several hours later my PC froze again, this time with this Error message in event log:
    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: True Vector Engine
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 1
    Description:
The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( True Vector Engine ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event:
    Data:
Database file C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\IAMDB.RDB was improperly shut down. Restoring backup rules database: C:\WINDOWS\InternetLogs\BACKUP.RDB
(I am running Zonealarm 2.6 on my PC)

So, after I turn it on, first thing I do was to stop WinMgmt service and to make it manual. However I can't stop Windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extensions service. When I look at task manager winmgmt.exe is there, too. I don't think I need this service, can I not get rid of them?

    Any clue?
