I have a web page that links to files in a secure directory that is protected by IIS. The user must have an account on the server to access the hyperlinked files. On the download.htm file there are links to myzip.zip, myexe.exe and share.exe and they all point to the downloads folder.

    Win2003/IIS6

    local user account - myuser/mypassword

IIS - removed anonymous access to a folder: downloads

NTFS - allowed read only, read & excute access to the folder

    My Site Structure:
    site root level
    download.htm
    /downloads/
    myzip.zip
    myexe.exe
    /shareit/
    share.exe

When I click on a link to one of the secure files it prompts me to log in via Windows authentication. After logging in, I am not given the requested file. Instead I am returned an DNS error that it can find the file. When I allow anonymous access everything works fine. How do I get this setup correctly?

I think I can replicate your problem if I remove the tick from "Read" on the properties of a Virtual directory (see image). It might be worth checking that setting.

Also check the properties of the files themselves and make sure the security settings set at the folder have been inherited. The should have inherited the settings, but worth check in case something strange has happened.

Sorry. I think you've misunderstood what I said. I removed the tick to get the same error. You need read ticked!

However, that probably means that this wasn't the answer.
