I will be going mobile in the next month and bought a cheaper laptop loaded with Win 2000 in order to keep to keep in touch with business matters back home. The laptop has a card slot and I,ll be hitting known hot spots to access the internet.Iam new to WiFi and curious if there are issues using Win2000 for these kind of connections.I would have liked to load XP but the cost is prohibitive for the moment.I run Win2000Pro on my desk tops and assume that I can upgrade the laptop if that is a better OS for WiFi usage.Any feed back would be appreciated.Thanxz.

    Windows 2000 and Wi Fi

Windows 2000 with wi fi is just fine.
The drivers and the install are generally the xp drivers.
Windows 2000 does not come with its own wireless utlity ( as does Windows XP which was made in the day of more common wi fi)
You will have to do the full install off the install disk with the wireless utility of the manufacturer.
    Works just fine.
Only problem is if you swap card- have more than one wireless adapter ( say for wardrivers or testing cards).
At the worst take out the tcip/ip for the cards and let it find and reinstall the correct tcip for the new card on reboot.
Works fine - just make sure you have the correct driver.
If you have to download the driver / utility check the card version number.

    Thank you...............

for the input.Do you know of any particular web site that would be of good reference for further research?I,ve Googled extensively on "WiFi & Win2000" but could only come up with bits and pieces of info.I guess its just a matter of using general WiFi information and going from there.

Seattle wireless might be a place to look
try google groups for wi fi :

    http://groups.google.com/group/alt.internet.wireless/topics?lnk=gschg

the most knowledgable fellow there is guy named Jeff who has a website
    learnbydestroying.

Its fairly cut and dry. Most 2000 drivers are xp drivers. There is no built in windows wireless utility . Some might call this a blessing.
You can use the program that comes on the install disc. Most of these acutally are more detailed and usefull than the windows one.
There are 3rd party products called winc or the new version of network magic can ask as default wirleless utitlity.
    Its fairly standard.
As I noted the only problems i had was with swapping out cards to try them out.
