    Hi,
I am new to this. I have just reloaded win2k onto my system after reformatting due to virus infection. I had help first time but tried it solo. I got everything in but having problems with installing programs; winmx, yahoo messenger, real player etc. I can download the program but when I try to install I get error message saying "not valid win32 application ". This never occured before I reinstalled on my own. I noticed that before at start up it displayed my name in login window and actually just flashed it without my having to enter password ( which i left blank ). Now it comes up with Administrator and blank password and I have to click ok to enter - which works fine. What have I done wrong on the install and can I fix without re-installing everything?

Strange problem. I can't think of a single thing you could have done "wrong" on install to cause it.

    What virus did you have?

You say you reformatted. Using the option early in the 2K install process?

Thanks for the reponse. I do not know what the virus was - it came in under the name of one of my regular email contacts. The attachement said "Flying Lessons" and it took out my email right away then it attacked pc-cillin and would not let me scan the files it was then residing in. It did not, it seems attach to an operating program other than outlook although it did seem to be churning my hd. I managed to flush out the install.exe but could not get my email back together so I reformatted with the original hd format disc and loaded win2k. I was wondering if perhaps I used a default to hook up networking instead of idividual use or something like that. Should I have put my name in where it asked to name my computer. I just used the default name supplied with no password at all.
