After 29 July 2016, will Windows 10 still be available for download? Do I have to back up the ISO file for future reinstallation?

29 July 2016 is the last date by which you can update your old Windows 7 & 8 computers to Windows 10 for free. If you have already updated your computer, you can theoretically download the latest version of Win 10 & install again on the same computer.

However, it does make sense to save the ISO. Just in case.

Matthew, You are running W10 Home OS which you upgraded to free? After the upgrade is complete and all updates are installed and your comp is functioning as you want - you are allowed by MS to make a (one copy) Recovery USB/DVD.
Therefore, after July 2016, if you have a major problem with your W10 OS, you can use your Recovery Disc/USB to remedy your problem.
If you wanted to Download a fresh W10 ISO, you would need to purchase a Product key. (currently about $119.00USD).
This is how I understand the information provided by MS. Neil.

You could also keep a copy of your system partition using many free/paid utilities. Beats installing Windows from scratch.

    Yes.

Do you mean that after July 2016, the W10 ISO installation file previously downloaded from the Microsoft site can no longer be used? I don't like to use a recovery disc because all old files will be deleted.

The Windows 10 ISO can be used to install, reinstall or repair Windows 10 at anytime.

One way to avoid losing your files is to create a backup. (Backup: a copy of computer data [as a file or the contents of a hard drive)] also : the act or an instance of making a backup).

Perhaps a product key previously used to upgrade will be needed to download Windows 10 after 29 July 2016.

I have serious doubts as to whether MS would leave it as open as that. I think there is probably a registry entry to cause the user to purchase a Product Key after 29th. July 2016 to enable activation.
    Time will tell. Neil.

    The following will tell.
    http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/microsoft-there-will-be-no-annual-fee-for-windows-10/
Read Microsoft’s lips: There will be no annual fee for Windows 10.

I think it applies to users who do not upgrade before 29/7/2016.

Matthew, I should have used the word 'client' instead of user.
A user will be someone who has the "Free" Upgrade prior to 29th. July 2016.
My interpretation of the stated info from MS, is that the free Upgrade to W10 on a legitimate W7 or W8.1 computer will last the life of the computer.
This will be the only MS OS for ongoing use in the future which will be maintained by Updates.
Prior MS OS's will not be supported by MS after their official published support dates end.
Anyone wishing to install W10 after 29th. July 2016 will have to purchase a Product Key to enable Activation.
Users who installed/Upgraded W10 in the "FREE" 12 month period will be able re-install W10 to their computer in the event of problems (corruption of the OS) as is currently available.
The "unknown factor" is if the W10 ISO is Downloaded now using the MCT and burning to DVD or installing on USB thumb drive - will it be possible to Upgrade/install the W10 after 2016 free?
I stand to be corrected if I have the wrong understanding of MS statements. Neil.

As Win10 is the last version of Windows, will it still be maintained by Updates after October 14, 2025, the end-of-support date?

Reinstallation is allowed but upgrade is impossible after 29/7/2016.
