    Hi,

I recently clean installed win xp sp2 original after formatting. Files were copied from the cd but when windows started from hard disc , the logo appeared and the blue car started running 5-6 times and stopped. I checked hard disk for errors with other computer and found it OK. I brought a new ram and yet it wont work.

    Requests for a solution.

Hi and welcome to the BBS,

Is the installation CD clean and free of scratches?

    Found this:
    Windows XP Setup Cannot Continue
You only need the i386 folder copied to the hard drive.

I take it you cannot run the installation from the CD? What happens when you try?

Is it a Microsoft disk or a computer manufacturer's version? What do you mean when you say "original "?

    Hi Matt,

Thanks for ur reply. The CD is from the HP manufacturer and for distribution with a HP or Compaq PC with genuine serial number. The CD worked with another computer perfectly.

I think you will find the disk is for the computer it was supplied with. If it worked on another HP or Compaq computer, that computer probably had the same motherboard or the disk came with that computer.

From my experience, HP computer disks are supplied with only the drivers for the computer it came with. Compaq computers might be able to be installed with a Microsoft version. The disk/CD will not be made for various HP or Compaq computers. It will only have drivers for the model it was supplied with.

Sorry, but if the disk came with a different computer, I don't think you will ever get Windows installed. The disks are not for general installation, they are made to install on the computer they came with.

That's good, I think I said the same thing three times :D, but I wanted to get my point across.

Don't forget to mark your thread Resolved. It is in your Thread Tools. I will do it for you this time.

You might want to go to the Compaq/HP website and ask them through their "Contact Us" support system if a Microsoft installation version can be installed on your computer model.
