Has anyone out there downloaded and installed SP1 successfully for WIN XP?
For me, the installation bar goes across half way and stops.

    aks,

Adware is malware that you inadvertantly pick up in the natural course of surfing the Internet. It becomes ingrained on your drive and issues commands that report back to the creator as to your surfing habits, etc.

You can get rid of them by using a freeware program like Ad-Aware

Later on you may also want to consider using SpyBot as well.

    Good luck.

No lexington is about the center of North Carolina.

Asheville is about 180 miles away!

Are you looking for a dial up ISP or broadband (cable or dsl)?

If you can afford a little more than twice what a dialup is then shoot for broadband.

First choice check with you phone company especially if dialup! The may also provide dsl but you must live in town for this almost as dsl can only be provided at a distance of 3- (5 miles max) from a central switch!

If you have Time Warner Cable you can get Road runner hi speed. And even if you don't have cable now and don't want it for TV they will still install Road Runner!

    Good luck!

It does not matter how far from a central switch for dial up, no limit, the ISP could be in Paris if you wanted.

    Only dsl.

Mike - I agree about the distance from the phone company central switching gear not affecting the availability of dial-up (except for cost if it is long distance :D).

But - it can and will affect the maximum connect speed of the modem. The max you can expect from a 56K modem is 50K if you live close to the central switch and 30-40 if not. I've forgotten how many hops but it is something like 3 or 4 substations before you lose the speed I think. Been a while and the tech specs of phone company equipment isn't a strong point of mine.
