Hello, I am new to this board and I would like to ask a question concerning Windows XP. I have more than one computer now. I purchased my Windows XP upgrade about 2 years ago. Can I use that same disk to load XP on another computer, or is it good only on one computer? Thanks.

You need to own a copy of XP for each PC so you will have different ID numbers to use.

The same physical media will install the OS but if your code is the same on both you will have problems.

Can you tell me what type of problems I could have? I have a computer at my crash pad in Minneapolis that has 98 SE, and I would like to put my XP on it. I am probably going to sell my current computer at home soon. Should I include the XP disk with it when I sell it? I guess that's a pretty stupid question. Anyway, thanks for your reply Newt.

The problem you're gonna have is that when the second computer gets activated, the first computer will not be allowed to reactivate should anything go wrong.

If I activated the second computer, would the disk then be matched with that computer, and not the original? If that is the case, when I get ready to sell the first computer, I will re-install 98 SE on it, and continue to use XP on the second one. I'm just trying to keep from having to buy another disk. I think Microsoft ******* us on this one. Thanks for your replay Ray.

If you uninstall XP from the machine you intend to sell, install it on your other machine, and then phone Microsoft, they will work with you to get the new machine activated. Not a major issue but is is something they need to help with.
