    Welcome to WindowsBBS nickfromboston :)

Lets see what an online scan reveals. Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click Scan Now and accept the agreement. You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
    • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    • Now click on Scan Settings
    • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
      • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
      • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
        Scan Mail Bases
    • Click OK
    • Now under select a target to scan:
      • Select My Computer
    • This will program will start and scan your system.
    • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
    • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
      • Now click on the Save as Text button:
    • Save the file to your desktop.

    Post the Kaspersky log here.

Those two files in an archive were most likely actually in a ZIP, JAR or RAR file.
If you would post a HijackThis log, it would tell others here what there is to be seen.
In the meantime, go to Shutdown, but choose Restart in Dos Mode. Do these commands at the prompt. This will just do a general cleanup not possible while windows is running.
    smartdrv
    deltree c:\windows\cookies
    deltree c:\windows\history
    deltree c:\windows\temp
    deltree c:\windows\tempor~1
    deltree c:\windows\shelli*
    deltree c:\windows\*.swp

When prompted as to whether or not to delete check for typos at this time, if none, press Y. When done, simply reboot. Those files and folders will be rebuilt clean.

I was using AVG Free on Win98 and had many problems. Was told on here to try AVAST! Free and that fixed everything! A lot easier to use than AVG, and much more thorough, and my computer runs great now. I kept AVG on until AVAST was installed, then gladly got rid of AVG. Maybe this could be the answer for this person, too.
