A strange problem. This is fairly recent (in the past 8 months) My system will not shut down properly - seems to be related to having been on line (which I do a lot). when I go to shut down it either hangs on the shut down screen or (This is the really bizarre thing) it just shuts the monitor and I do not even see the screen saying "Windows 98 is now shutting down. "
Only thing I can do is reboot and then shut down or do an ALt-ctrl-del and close off all apps.
    This is annoying.
    Any clear advice is appreciated.

or do an ALt-ctrl-del and close off all apps.

After re-reading the original post the below may not apply.

    After being on line.

    For a staring point.

Before trying to shutdown Do a Cntrl-Atl-Del ans see if RNAAPP is still loaded.

If it is, do an End Task on it and see it Windows shuts down then.

I have seen it take as much as 10 minutes for that to shut itself down.

Of course this only applys if you are sunig a Dial-Up ISP.

Also if you have Norton Anti-Virus loaded and have it set to check the floppy at shutdown, that will hang things up also.
