    Operating System: Windows 95

After I installed anti-spyware SpyCatcher and it detected a program called SideStep, I could not talk on the Internet. My dial-up modem would connect alright, but no other information would be sent or received. Reinstalling SideStep didn't help. When I removed SpyCatcher, I got an error message saying that "scheduler deamon.exe" was missing after I cycled power. I tried running the Explorer repair program on the Control Panel, this did not help.

Hello, welcome to the boards. Sorry to hear about your bad luck. This daemon.exe could be a trojan virus, and you may have a malicious dialer present, but those are guesses.
Your biggest problem could be this from the Anti-Spyware website.
"Anti-Spyware requires Windows 98/Me/2000/XP and an Internet connection." I see that 95 is not supported. There is a big difference between 95 and 98.

But to maybe help you get online, try installing Winsock2 for 95 and use WinSockFix if that doesn't work.

For better results removing spyware, SpyBot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware, both are free and are two of the best. Ad-Aware may not work for you, but Spybot will work for you if you have Winsock2 installed for 95. There are manual update files for download to update Spybot.

I recommend RAV Online Scan. followed by posting a HijackThis log. In any case a HJT log can be a big help.

    Thanks for your reply.

The reason I installed SpyCatcher was that the box said that the system reqirements were Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP. So I figure I was good to go.
The link to WinSockFix at majorgreeks.com said that that this fix was for XP machines. Would this fix work on my machine?

Try using LSP-Fix instead of WinSockFix. It does work on 95 but you need to have WinSock2 installed or it'll return an error when you run it. If you don't know if you have WinSock2 or not, download it from the link that markp62 provided and install it. Then run LSP-Fix. Before you run it, read the readme file that comes with it. Especially the recovering from disaster section.

Tried to install "WinSock2 for 95" and got a Error message that said to install Microsoft TCP/IP network protocol from Windows95 install disk and restart or if the TCP/IP network protocol was installed to run windows\\WS2BAUP\WS2BAKUP.bat. Since it use to work, I figured that the TCP/IP network protocol was installed and tried to run WS2BAKUP.bat. I got a Error message saying "Sharing Violation reading drive C ".

Futher investeration has found that the Sharing Violation occurs on the following files: ws2_32.dll, ws2help.dll, msvcrt.dll, wsock32.dll and nswsock.dll. All but Msvcrt.dll are marked Read Only. They all are located in the c:\windows\system folder.

The log file for winsock2 for 95 says that it fails because Microsoft TCP 1.1 is not installed. It is attempting to install Microsoft TCP 2.0.
