Browsing through this new system, I accidentally deleted my Windows 8 credentials in the credentials manager. What does this do and how do I put it back?

I started by opening My Computer folder, then browsed through several files (embarrassingly can't remember which ones) eventually arriving at a page that showed 2 files - 1 was Web Credentials and the other was Windows Credentials. I wanted to see the contents and clicked Edit to open. Contents looked familiar so I hit Cancel to cancel the edit and it erased the contents instead. I tried to make a new credential as I remembered what I saw but it was denied. Do I need this credential and if so, how do I go about creating one?

If you didn't tell me I wouldn't even know this feature exists in Windows 8.
The reason is that every browser has very same feature so personally I won't ever use Windows Credentials.

So you don't think I need to be identified with this Windows credential? I can't even find the page now and I'm little afraid to turn off my computer in case Windows won't recognize me when I turn it back on. Your thoughts?

It doesn't say anything about computer login.

I'm a little paranoid because suddenly Windows wouldn't open on my old computer due to a system 32 error which never got fixed. Got this new computer with win 8 and am afraid I'll lock myself out of Win again. I looked at the 2 sites you noted but didn't really understand all the verbiage. So, you think it's o.k. to shut down and expect to be able to access Win?

Did you make a set of recovery disc's when you go the PC? Most of them in the last couple of years ask you to do so every time you boot up.

I'm fairly sure you're OK to shut down.

Thanks Arie, You've helped me many times with XP and I try to learn from those mistakes. The only difference since I deleted the credential information is that the first screen on opening no longer shows my name. I can live with that.

Thanks for your help, Mr. Bill .. and yes, this time I paid the store to make a recovery disk for me. Once burned, you know ... I just hope it will work when I actually need it.
