I'm looking to buy a Gateway MD7818U Refurbished Notebook PC "“ Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2GHz, 4GB DDR2, 500GB, DVDRW, 15.6â€, Vista Home Premium 64-bit. I want to use Win 7 pro 64-bit. Would it be better to buy the Retail upgrade (199.99) or the OEM DVD (149.99) and install it. Also any other issues that I may need to look at with doing this.

I don't know where you would stand legally with an OEM copy as the machine already has one installed on it.

I was under the impression that you could only buy it with the purchase of a new computer / core computer hardware.

But as you are purchasing a computer it might be ok to buy it at the same time.

There seem to be lots of problems with upgrading and Windows 7 at the moment.

Im sure your safest bet would be to buy a full retail copy.

Also retail software can be moved between computers as long as it is uninstalled from the other. So if you happen to upgrade in a years time at least you will be safe in the knowledge you can move your OS to the new machine without hassle.

Someone else can probably shed more light on the subject here!

    Tom :)
