I am using win 7 (32bit) and a second monitor. I am using ultramon, but i would like programs such as firefox/wmp to open on the primary monitor and not remember where it was last opened.

I was also given a copy of Actual Window Manager, but could not see that as an option

    Anybody have any suggestions?

No suggestions. It is great that they remember where last opened. That's common sense. So if you want to open them on the primary monitor, just open & use them on the primary monitor...

It may be great most of the time but configurable would be better. :)

IMO it is totally configurable ....

If you want the program to open on the second monitor open it on the primary monitor, drag it (not maximised) to the second monitor and close it. It will thereafter open on the second monitor.

    As Arie posted

    OK ...

    So far so good.

But that isn't really 'configuring', that's just default behaviour.

Now, how do you configure it so that if you want to look at something on the second monitor as a one off you can do so without having to drag it back the next time you use it?

It's really a pity that MS didn't think to add a new button at right of the title bar to swap a program back and forth between monitors.

A small minority of users use 2 or more monitors so it is not surprising that the facility you suggest is not included.
Configuration is setting the default behaviour :)

If MS only included features that are used by a large majority W7 would be a lot smaller than it actually is. ;)

    Exactly.

And as you can't set the default behaviour to be be to always start a programme on a particular monitor even if it's been temporarily dragged elsewhere, placement is not fully configurable.

Not really a lot more to say, is there? :)

Just a pity we could not solve the OP's problem.

think i may have solved it,

right click on the ultramon icon,
    click on shortcuts,
    new shortcut,
    brows for application,
    leave box below empty,
    click next,
    tick use custom settings,
select monitor you wish to use,
    click next,
click use custom setting and make sure the monitor has been selected,
    click next,
enter name for shortcut and then click finish.

this seems to have worked for me, as i can open firefox on the primary monitor, and once it has shut down, it will still open on the primary monitor, even if it has been moved, and shutdown.

I also notice a tab called ultramon when i right-clicked on the shortcut as well. (I never noticed it the fgirst time).

Thank you for your help, and I hope this helps anyone else.

PS. i am using ultramon 3.07beta
