WIN 7 backup restore to WIN 10

My spouse is considering (finally!) upgrading her PC to WIN 10 from WIN 7. She is very concerned about losing anything in the transition. I know I can re-install programs on the WIN 10 upgrade, but if I do a WIN 7 backup of files, will I be able to restore that backup on the WIN 10 upgrade? I'm pretty sure I could copy all the doc,exe,ppt,pst, etc files to an external drive, then copy back, but a backup and restore process seems much easier - IF it can be done. thoughts? Advice?

I used the same process going from W7 and just chose the option to retain all Files - no problems.
