We have a server running on win2003 server and 6user machines all on win xp sp1.we all log in to a domain on the server with assigned usernames and passwords--me and our accountant log in using the same username and passwords and all has been well till last week when both our comps take tooo looong to log in and at times even hang but when loging in to the local machine (not domain) its very fast. The computer account we log in with exists. Ow can i solve this or better still ow can i create a new user account to log in to our domain coz when i try i get the msg the computer was not found. Somebody had suggested that i change my computers primary dns to the servers IP adress and i tried it but no difference---we are using fidelio hotel management system and its the reason why we all log in to the server so as to acccess fidelio. Is Fidelio the cause???pls hlp

Do you manage the server, or do you have a support company looking after the server?

Slow log-in could be caused by a number of things. If the PC are set to use the server as primary DNS, the first thing to isolate is whether the problem is specific your computers and/or your accounts. Can you log-in at another PC on the domain? Is that as slow as logging in on your own PC?

It looks like you need to join the PC to the domain. You will then be able to log in to a domain account.
    1. Identify or create an account for the user in Active Directory on the server
    2. Log in as the current user and backup their profile using the Files and Setting transfer wizard (in accessories > system tools)
    3. Go to the system properties (either via the system icon in control panel, or right click on "My Computer" and select properties)
    4. Select the "Computer Name" tab, and click on the "Change" button
    5. In the "Member of" section, select Domain and enter the name of your domain
    6. There will then be a delay while the PC detects the domain. After this a small window will pop up asking you to enter the credentials of a user with rights to add the PC to the domain. Enter your domain administrator username and password.
    7. Click all the OKs to complete the wizards and close the open windows. You will then be prompted to restart the PC.
    8. On reboot log in with the credentials of the user identified in step one (make sure to change "domain" from the PC name to your network domain)
    9. Restore the settings save in step 2, to this new profile. Once you happy that everything is working correctly, you can delete the old profile via system properties > advanced > User profile settings
