I'm frequently on my laptop for 15 minutes, then leave it for a half hour. When I come back to it, it's sometimes in sleep mode but often it has shut down. Is there a timer setting someplace to say "don't shut down for 2 hours" or whatever time I'd like?

Check the power settings you should be able to change there. Click on the battery icon in the Notification Area(systray) If this is the dell enter your service tag(should be located on a label on the bottom of the machine) enter the number on Dell Support Check the User Guide or Service Guide. Hope this helps.

In Windows 10, Go to > Control Panel > Power Options > Choose when to turn off the display > do your thing.
Right click Start button to get Menu for Control Panel. Neil.

( can't find "Control Panel ". The version of W-10 I'm using has none of the old feature names from XP or Win 8. I'm still messing with the power/sleep issue, but there doesn't seem to be any consistency ib how it works.

I guess I'll have to keep trying, just live with it or maybe get an Apple machine and kiss Microsoft goodbye. Consider this query closed.

Right-click on the Windows logo in the taskbar. Control Panel is one of many shortcuts you can find there. When in doubt... right-click!

ps. Lj just beat me to it while I was busy taking the screenshot ;)

ALL versions of W10 have the same access to the Menu with Control Panel!!!
I've just checked my Insider Build 14316, my W10 Home and this W10 Pro and ALL 3 use the method I stated in Post #3.
Control Panel > Power Options > your options are clearly shown on the left side of the screen. Neil.

Actually, Arie, I suggested in my second post that whatever version of W-10 I have has no mention of "Control Panel" and recommended closing the thread. There's nothing on the left side of the screen. Permanent icons, on the bottom of the screen are "Task View ", "File Explorer ", Google Chrome" and "Store ". Chrome is one I added. All other icons appear down the right side when I move the cursor over there and none of those are "Control Panel ".

I'm living with it as "one of those Microsoft quirks ".

    Please close it.

All Windows 10 versions have this capability AFAIK.
