Hello, I have a Dell Dimension E-510/5150 running XP Pro. I'm going to purchase W7Prem Home hopefully today. I know it has to be a clean install. I ran the Windows 7 upgrade advisor and EVERYTHING was Win 7 Compatible except my Graphic Adapter saying it won't run Aero. In the future if I want I can purchase an upgrade for my Graphic Adapter but what I'm really wondering is will Win7 load all the drivers I need from the DVD? When I did my clean installs with XP I had to use my Driver CD that came with my Dell to get on line, etc.As we all know, getting on-line is the most important part of this new Install, in my opinion! Sorry for bugging you all on what should be a very busy day...
    Thank You,
    ~Paul

During my various installs of betas and the RC, Windows 7 has gone on line and downloaded anything it needed, including drivers. Just make sure that you have an active web connection.

Dear r.leale, I have Comcast Broadband on my (Desktop) PC I'm doing the Win7 Home Premium clean install on. Now of course when I did my XP clean installs then use the Dell CD with my drivers I was able to get online. I'm thinking that without a network card driver on Win7 CD I won't be able to get online???? Sorry for lack of knowledge. Just went to my local Staples to purchase my Win 7 and nobody in line for it HaHa....Salesman tried to tell me I had to buy the $199 Pro version because only Vista can upgrade, okay but I showed him on back of Home Premium it said like in 1000 other places XP must do clean installs....Nice enough salesman but come on, I was his 1st customer of day,,how many will be back to kill him LOL

Yes, the software includes generic drivers.

EXCELLENT Arie,,thanks for getting back to me. Well thats good then. So I'll set my PC to boot from the CD/DVD instead of the Hard Drive and hopefully follow the promps to get my version of Win 7 Home Premium on my Desktop. I'll just do a clean install of Win 7 and please God,,VOILA!!
    Thank you again.
PS. Arie, many people having troubles going from XP to Win 7 ?

No idea. Win7 has been out < 24 hours & I haven't bothered to look at the MS forums (they no longer have newsgroups, and their forums are a PITA).

You could always run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to see if you need to download updated drivers for your hardware previous to the install.

Hello Whiskeyman (Cool handle) I ran Win 7 Upgrade Advisor and it showed that my Dell Dimension E-510 was compatible for everything except 1 piece of Software and my Graphic Card needs to be upgraded for AERO to work correctly. Hopefully my install works okay. My only worry is will I be able to get on-line okay after my Clean Install of Win 7 Home Premium. My Dell comes with all my drivers of course for XP Pro.

Thank You PeteC for your reply and your time. Have to admit I'm kinda excited but at same time I'm worried about screwing up. Oh I'll do it and have some glitches but I should be able to do it okay,,
    Thanks again PeteC

Okay, first I MUST thank EVERYONE for their help and support. The Clean Install went really well. My only remaining problem is I can't find the driver for my Speakers or any sound I guess. I have a Dell Dimension E-510 now running Win 7 :) Could someone help me with this last driver and I will try HARD not to bother you again for a week ;-) Promise!
    Many thanks seriously,
    ~Paul

    Hi Paul,

Is your sound card showing in Device Manager? I have the same problem of no sound, but it is no good looking for a driver in my case - Windows 7 can't find the SoundMax device that was working OK in the RC. I hope that it found yours!
    Good luck,

    Roger

Hi r.leale,,,I got real lucky. All the problem was is that my plug from the speakers was in wrong hole!!! Cool huh. I figured it by looking in Device Manager whick took me a few minutes to find. So far so good with Win 7 but sure different than XP :) I like it.
Thanks for the assist my friend....Firefox crashed once or twice but no big deal yet..hopefully.

To find anything in Win 7 click on the Orb and type what you want, e.g. Device Manager or Sounds in the search box. Works like magic :)

The circular button bottom left hand corner of your screen with the MS logo - in XP days it was Start :)
