Time to get a new desktop PC around $600 or so. Have xp home on my laptop which I like. If the Vista home basic will do everything xp home (IE7) will do then I think I'd be happy with that as I'd like to try the Vista OS. If the Vista home premium is required just for the media stuff I don't need it at all, so will the Vista home Basic do every single thing the XP Home V2002 (IE7) will do.? If so, I'd save about a $100 or so.

Otherwise I'll just buy another XP HOme edition.

If you want to get a 'crippeled' Vista, yes, it's about the same as XP Home.
