Will UG XP CD work as boot disk

I have the Upgrade CD not pirated and would like to use it as a boot cd on a sick Compaq machine. All I want to see is if the Compaq will at least give me a prompt. If so then I can order the Recovery Disks. All I can find on boot disks for XP require a floppy drive and 6 disks. This machine does not have a floppy.

Yes, the XP upgrade disk is bootable. However, my guess is that you won't need it. I'd be surprised if the recovery disk they send you isn't bootable. I've never seen one that isn't.

 

Thank You Zander. The machine may have a bad PSU or MB. All I want to do is see it post and then read a cd before I order the recovery disks.

One thing to be aware of when booting from an XP disk though. Watch the screen while it's booting. It'll stop for a few seconds and say press any key to boot from CD. If you don't press a key, it'll go right by it and try to boot to Windows. I thought I'd mention it because you could look away for a bit, not see the prompt and then think that it wouldn't boot from the CD.
