Will SyncBack SE work for me?

I have a home network with 2 (soon to be 3) computers running XP networked through a Linksys wireless router. I use Outlook 2002.

I want to find a way to have my e-mails and calendar info on all computers in the network. I was looking at SyncBack SE as it has a nice price tag and it would have the added benefit that I could not only keep my e-mails and such synced on all computers but any commonly used files. I don't need everything synced between the computers as one is mainly going to be a storage place but there are certain files and folders that I use all the time. So will this program work for me? Will I be able to pick and choose what I want to keep synced between all the computers? Will it work for giving me access to e-mails and calendar information no matter what computer I am on?

Right now I have folders that are shared so I can access everything I need from the various computers but if I want to take the laptop with me I have to manually place a copy of what I think I might be working on onto the laptop and then make sure I put the revised copy back onto the main desktop. From the way I am reading about SyncBack SE it will take care of all that for me. Am I understanding it correctly?

If it wouldn't make sense for me, can anyone think of a better program or a better way?

    Thank you so much!

    Kirsten

It appears that the software will do what you want. I'd never heard of it until this post, so I suggest you check out their faqs:

I think you will find that Synchback will do the job for you - I have been using it for several years to make a synched copy of my data drive to another internal drive on an hourly basis, a backup of the registery on a daily basis to another internal drive and a synched copy of several other drives, including the data drive to an external USB drive on a weekly basis.

You will probably have to setup two profiles, one for each computer that you wish to synch, but these can be scheduled to run as you please. Synchback is very configurable - occasionally needs a bit of figuring out :) As with most programs I only scratch the surface and use those bits that are relevant to my needs.

There used to be a free/trial version available.

    PeteC,

Since you have used the program do you think a relatively intermediate to beginner computer user will be able to work with it and still retain their hair? :)

They still have a free trial version so I may start out that way but I don't have a lot of spare time (who does) and I don't want to play around with a lot of trial versions. I would like to be right the first time.

    Thanks,

    Kirsten

Yes :) Basically it's very user friendly and has improved through the various versions. From their web site ....
I would download the trial and give it a go.

    Hi again,

SyncBack has been working great for keeping my e-mail current on both computers but I have yet to figure out how I can get it to work for any other folders and files on my computer.

Pete C, you had mentioned you use it to back-up your drives. How? It seems to limit my choices for syncing to my Outlook folders only. Do I need to add FolderShare or something?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Kirsten

I'm not sure if the trial version which I presume you are using is exactly the same as SyncBackSE v 4.1.3.0 which I use, but in that I click on Profiles (in the menu bar) > New and follow the wizard through. Select either files, folders or drives or a mix.
