I am upgrading my mobo in the next couple weeks. I am going from a SATA I mobo to a SATA II mobo. I have 2 SATA I hdd's and I Would like to hook them up to the SATA II mobo. I would hope this works so I don't have to keep the SATA I board and tower just for the info that is on the hdd's.

    Pepse.

A SATA II motherboard is backwards compatible with SATA I.

Funny, I didn't look at it from the motherboard point of view. Just the HDD.

    Thanx. Pepse.

Actually, it works both ways. That is, SATA II drives are backward compatible with SATA I motherboards too. And if you decide to get SATA 6 drives, they will work on your SATA II (also known as SATA 3.0) motherboard.

Okay. For some reason I just couldn't figure out on my own that it should work. And yeah, SATA 6 would also be backwards compatible. I realize that. I think, besides old age::D, I am just doing too many things and forget to look at the simple ones. I mean I've been building my own computers since the mid '90's and yet I forgot a simple thing. Most hardware items are backward and forward compatible. Oh well.

Again, thanx for the help. I gotta close this thread now.

    Later. Pepse.

Ha! If I can only claim the title under my user name for another 15 month so I understand where you are coming from. I am sure I have forgotten more than most people know. That suggests something, but I forgot what! ;)
