Hey all, i am thinking of upgrading my CPU from my existing AMD Athlonâ„¢ 64 X2 Dual-Core 4400+ with HT Tech. to the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ (3.2 GHz) Socket AM2 L2 2MB (2x1MB). I have checked but the websites for my motherboard don't make it clear whether it will or it won't accept the cpu upgrade.

My motherboard is: ASUS A8N-SLI PCI-Express Mainboard - ATX
    The CPU i wish to upgrade to is: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ (3.2 GHz) Socket AM2 L2 2MB (2x1MB)

Could anyone with some knowledge just confirm whether my motherboard will accept the cpu upgrade or whether it won't? I think it will but obivously don't want to buy a new cpu and find it won't work etc, plus any other information whether i would need a bios update or anything for it to work would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your replies :D

Your best choices would be an FX60 (dual) or an FX57 (single). Both are screamers and the ultimate choice would boil down to what you want to do with your computer. As Pete said, this is a socket 939 board.

    ;)

hmm may have to go for the FX chip then as they seem to be nice and cheap and would be a worthy upgrade anyway, but thanks alot for the info guys :D
