Will MS give Windows 9 away free?

Mary Jo Foley at ZDNet said in June: "Regardless of how usable or functional (Windows 8.1) is or isn't, it has become Microsoft's Vista 2.0 "

Paul Thurrott says the August update to Windows 8.1 "...will include no major new features at all." and "Threshold, likely to be called Windows 9, is still sounding like a Spring 2015 deliverable. "

Windows 8.1 market share actually fell in July.
