Will GoBack stay and SR go ?

I installed GoBack 3.2 Deluxe Version last evening.

So far it has made more backups files in 12 hours than SR has in a Month.

There is something that I do need a little help in understanding.

I understand what The Start of System Boot is. It looks like at every restart too BTW.

But what is System Safe Point ? I take it to mean that Point is made at a time when the system is up and running but sitting idle. Is that correct ?

I have also removed some insignifigant ( un-needed ) stuff and then did a revert just to find it all back again. Desktop Shortcuts and all. I believe that says it is working correctly.

Does the disk space alloted to it have any effect. In order to change that ( if I read correctly ) it requires an uninstall/reinstall.

Am I think correctly there ?

    BB,

Coincidentally I installed GoBack yesterday and having read through the manuals - printed and on HD - and viewed the movie. I have yet to test it out, but trawling through the various options I am impressed so far.

As far as I recall the answers to your points are ....

    Yes, yes and yes.

    Thanks PeteC

I have been looking for it the stores around here and could not find it so I downloaded it from Symantec, Burned it to a CD and ran the install from the CD.

I may just wrap up a truck load of coins I have and still get the full package. There are some thing that I do prefer to have the Retail package of.

But the one big advantage ( I think anyway ) is having the capacity to get to it at bootup in case Windows won't load.

Just don't be looking the other way when the screen comes up.

Have not had the courage to try that out yet.

I'm pretty hard-headed. After moving from '98SE to XP-Pro and trying to do things the "old" way, (ended up in three re-installs in a month!) I put Go-Back on for "peace of mind ". After several months of "learning" how to use XP, I felt confident enough to remove it (it WILL slow down even a fast machine like my P4x2.4 with 1024 RAM) and resume using XP's system restore.

A very good and stable program.

I do not think Go Back is slowing anything down. Not that I can see anyway and I only have a 1.2 and 256meg of RAM.

But even if it does slow things up a bit it is still well worth having something that does what it is supposed to.

XP System Restore is VERY undependable. Not only for me but many others.

As I said in my original post. GoBack has already made more backups in 12 hours than SR has in a Month. Well worth a little slow down.

And I have already gotten rid of some of what I though to be useless trash by having a backup to go back to. Have not had to BUT IT IS THERE.

Added Bonus that I see. If Windows will not boot you can get to GoBack at boot up to do a revert. WELL WORTH a bit of slowdown IF SAME does in fact exist.

    Bottom line for me.

Reliability is placed WAY, WAY ahead of Speed.

BB - I've been a happy GoBack user for a while. I now freely install junk to test it out knowing I'll be getting rid of it soon.

I do use the boot & press the spacebar method. Worked 100% for me and I must have reverted a few dozen times over the past year.

It may cause some speed issues. I really don't know and really don't worry about it. I will keep GoBack running so if it slows me down, well heck, I'm old and slowing down anyway. :D

It looks like I will be happy with it too.

I used it just the opposite. ( right now anyway ) I felt much more at ease to DELETE a bunch of left over stuff Knowing that I could get it back if needed.

I say delete as the uninstalls did not do a complete job.

Would the word(s) Norton or Symantec be sufficient for starters ??

And as I get things cleaned out and know that all will be ok. It will be clear GoBack files and make new.

The one thing I do know for sure that I have to remember. And that is that GoBack is monitoring ALL 6 partitions.

I say this as I believe ANY CHANGE that I make on ANY partition will be recorded by GoBack.

Am I right about that ?

Something new. Something more powerfull. Something that requires me to do a bit more thinking. Or else it can get me BACK into trouble also.

I only had SR monitoring the C: drive.

HAHAHA I deserve that one. But right now it is still Roxio. But by it now being owned by Symantec I may never uppgrade it.

But now that you have brought up the name of Norton.

I had to manually delete the Norton SpeedDisk folder due to a bad install/uninstall.

I then ran RegSeeker. It found 52 enteries for Norton SpeedDisk in the Registry. I restarted and it found 8 more. Cleaned them out and restarted twice.

It seems that my Rhode Island Red Rooster was sittin on the fence post and announcing Windows arrival much quicker this AM.

Gotta go do more House Cleaning.
