    G'Day everyone,
I have an issue that I'm hoping someone can help with.

I have an Asus laptop with Windows 7 Home edition, and like to dabble with a bit of home recording.

However, over the months I have found in order to get reliable results with the recording process, I have compiled a check list of stuff that I have to disable or change the settings of, to maximise the CPU and memory components and eliminate unwanted noise issues, prior to starting.

Once I'm done with this I then have to change everything back to the way it was for general use.

As you can appreciate this is a rather clumbsy and time consuming way of doing things. So I wondered if I created two login accounts, one called say "General Use" and the other "Home Recording ", and then logged into the Home Recording account and went about changing everything to suit that process, once I logged out of that account and logged into the "General Use" account, would all the things disabled or altered previously be restored to the way they were?

Typical things that are disabled are: anti virus, the User control, sounds and various other tweaks.

Does this sound like a proposition that would work?

    Cheers

    Ron

May or may not. It all depends on the programs that you are disabling or tweaks that you are performing. Some programs like antivirus, firewall are system wide & don't depend on the user settings. Thet won't work if disabled in one profile [generally Administrator].

Looks to me the question has been answered fully, that's why I didn't feel the need to answer.

Well it seems there's no definite answer on this, I guess it's just **** it and see.

Just thought I'd ask the experts, before going to the trouble of setting up an account making all the changes, only to find that half of them revert back to a Windows 7 default setting, which makes it pointless to set up the account - if you get my drift!

    Cheers

Without the list you compiled, there's no way we can say what will & won't work.

User Account Control settings are a system setting. Anti-Virus is usually also a system-wide service. The only way you'll know is to try it out. Easy & don't cost you more then a few minutes to figure out

[Resolved] But not what I hoped for.

Well I've finally got around to adding another account and making the changes I needed to maximise to performance of my Laptop.

However, there are three things that when changed in one account will not be as set in the others. Just in case someone in the future has a similar question I thought I post my findings for their benefit.

As pointed out above, you can disable the anti virus, but when you log out of that account and then log back in, the AV is active again.

Changing Processor Sheduling to "Background Services ", instead of "Programs" makes this change the default setting for all accounts.

And lastly, Changing the User Account Control Settings to "never notify" will also now become the default setting for all accounts.

While this wasn't what I was hoping for, creating an account to be able to maximise the laptops performance, has pruned my list of changes back to three items which is quite a bit less than it was. So I guess it's a partial win.

Thanks to thoise who offered their advice, most appreciated. Cheers Ron :)
