A few months ago when I installed Windows XP, I discovered that my EZ CD Creator was not compatible and I'd need to purchase the new one. I uninstalled the old one. Did a Find and got rid of everything I could find related to it. Still when I start up my computer I get this message in the lower right corner. "Devises or applications disabled. 'Cd Recording Software' will cause Windows to become unstable. Windows prevented these drivers from loading." Besides the fact that it slows down my start up a lot... it seems to be interfering with my virus protection a bit. So I'd like to get rid of it. Any ideas? I'm also planning on purchasing the newestEZ Cd Creator (I know you don't need it with xp, but I like it :) ) I was thinking about just installing the new one and see if that will get rid of the problem. Good idea? Bad idea? Thanks for your help.

 well it worked, but today was the first day since then that I tried to use my D or E drives --- they don't exist anymore. So, thank goodness for XP and I went to my restore point. Now I have my drives back, but the first problem still exists. Any other ideas? Thanks

Cards - don't know for sure but that sort of progressive problem sounds like maybe you got a virus. Have you done a full system scan?

EZ CD Creator 4.0 5.0 Platinum too!

Dear Vicki stay away from what is bad for you...didn't mom warn you? :)
I have been ruined due to the usage of EZ CD creator 4.0 5.0 And Platinum also, it is my experience and opinion that we will do better with another burner program.
I wrote them and i have gotten nothing but gibberish back from them so...i really burned mine.
As a result of using EZ CD Creator with XP home edition i am now looking for a life saver and not the candy kind.
Vicki..Go to "Start" "Control Panel" "Add or remove programs" left click "CD Creator Icon" left click "Remove ".:)
Now Vicki restart your computer and then go to "Start" "C:" search for files: Temp, Temporary, Program files, left click Windows file and seach there too for the following files named:
"Adaptec " and check in each file before taking any action for all related files to "Adaptec" .
Vicki are we ready? Now right click all "Adaptec files relating to CD Creator and proudly "DELETE" them. Restart your computer and do another thing that will serve you well, "defragment" all hard disk and partitions.
You can do this by going to "Start" "All programs" "Accessories" "System tools" left click "Defragmintation" "Highlight C: D: E: F: and so on depending how many partitions you have, ONLY 1 at a time and now...left click "Defragment ". It will take some time but it will rearrange in proper order your information on your hard disk now making your computer faster at accessing the needed information every time you click something. Have a great day Vicki.:)

P.S. Vicki When we erase programs we leave large baches of empty space on areas of the hard disk, that makes the information accessing activity slower and in most cases causes all windows programs to stop and think sometimes even stall.
Defragmentation is part of general care. In some cases the computer will ask you to scan disk first if it finds "Bad sectors on your hard drive. If you need help to properly scan disk post a cry for help or email me and i will help you gladly.

Something new! As I was fiddling around clicking this and that -- under system resources -- I found a spot that said Problem ........
So I clicked, and it listed my Communications Port 2 -- and said "This device cannot find enough new resources that it can use" hmmmmmmmmm Could this have anything to do with my D drive not working? My ram is 128 -- which I need to add to anyway. With xp I don't seem to be able to do much of anything quickly when my printer is printing. I'm assuming that is lack of ram. I'd be so happy if putting a little ram in would solve this!

I did all the searches for Adeptic you suggested and found nothing--I'm sure it must be hidden deep inside somewhere, but no where I can find. I did a defrag.. Ran another virus check .. Everything is the same. So... Right now I'd be SOOOOOO happy if I could just get my d drive to work!

I'm really close to taking it up to the repair shop--but-- for what they charge, I do believe I could buy one of those new online walmart computers!!
Thank you very much for your help!!! And you;) have a good day too.
    Vicki

Vicki Vicki Vicki be a fighter!

I am happy to see that your trying to help yourself.
Well Vicki XP is not that bad of a thing, and upkeeping needs a little effort on your part at first, once you make notes on "how to ".
you'll feel great and will most certainly be able to help others.
You are into helping others aren't you?

This forum is not the place for long instruction as it would disturb posting and we would not want to do that to our friends.
You are invited to email me and over the next day or so i would of already emailed you all you need to know on "How to" even with your computer.

    email me at: foryou@netvision.net.il

I will explain in detail all you need to Click and what to avoid, all my knowledge comes from past and present personal experience,
and a couple of great tips i picked up here at WindowsBBS.com

Before you email me go to "My computer" "disc D:" right click disc D: and choose format with Fat 32 and then email me with your results. Vicki.. Do not format with "quick format" Choose "Fat 32" for "File System" on the menu, then left click "OK ".

Hey! Vicki close all applications including "Screen Saver" before you format... "Nortans anti Virus" too even "Zone Alarm ".

Well...get going girl what are you waiting for?

I had the same problem (with the dvd/cd rom and cd-rw drives disappearing. I think it has something to do with those two files that are leftover from Easy CD Creator - cdralw.sys and cdr4.sys or something like that). I have been looking for a way to get rid of them too. I tried the remove software thing but it's not even listed.

I've yet to fix this problem. And, the first solution that was suggested caused my D drive to quit working (although it might not have been the suggestion...maybe the way I did it)... anyway. I'm thinking of buying Version 5 and installing it over everything... just because I can't think of another way. Although, I won't be too happy if that doesn't solve it:eek:  What do you think?

 well I bought version 5.0 of ez cd creator. And, it works great with my cd writer. BUT my computer still doesn't recognize anything in my d (cd) drive. When I go in device manager it says all is well and I go to trouble shooting, my computer tells me everything is working just perfectly. BUT... when I put a cd in it, it tells me there is no cd in the drive. ANY ideas of how to fix this?? Thanks much!

    Hello Cards0903,

By not "digging out" all the Roxio .dlls and other burner files from windows, the subsequent install is currupted. Go to the Roxio site and follow the thread on removal of the older v4.x version. This is a known problem. You will have to un-install the newer version as well first then re-install afterwards.

    Regards - Charles
