First off I have looked at a few other posts on here about other people having a blue/green/red tint on their monitors, but none of the solutions posted on there have worked for me.

As a side note, As of 3am last night my computer and monitor were fine. When I started it up today however, I noticed the BIOS start up and eventualy when it got to XP that everything was a green/blue tint. I immediately **** it off and made sure everything was solidly seated/connected properly. I then swapped out cables, tried it the monitor on a different computer (and it was fine). I hada green tint no matter what. So I swapped the video card out, had an ATI card 256mb AGP. and I switched to an Nvidia GeforceFX5200 AGP 128mb card. Still had a green tint.

I then trolled the boards for the rest of the day, trying small fixes here and there, but to no avail. So now im here.

    Any ideas?

    Hi, Crisius,

I just looked and yr 15" 500G LCD needs no special drivers.

Did this problem just appear suddenly? If so, can you associate it with any changes in the system?

I assume you've gone into Display and tried different color settings, etc. yes? What choices are you offered in the drop down menu in color options? What is it on now?

Very good you tried the screen on another computer; we know it isn't the problem.

Finally, have you tried any other monitors on this computer? Might be worth a try if you have a spare or could borrow one.

    Hey Jilly,

Yes this problem appeared out of nowhere, 3am today I turned it off and fell asleep. When I woke up and turned it back on it had this strange greenish hue/tint to everything.

I have played with the color options on my monitor and When I take out all the green or all the blue the tint/hue changes, but if I take out all the red there is no change. Right now I have all my color options at 0 and I turned up my brightness and contrast to max. so I have a grey tint over my screen.

Its like looking into a tinted window of a car, you can still see everything, just not very clearly.

And yes I have tried other monitors on this computer, an Acer 17 inch and an old Dell Monitor 16 inch, both giving me the same green hue/tint.

The only thing I havent changed/switched out at this point is the MOBO itself. Mainly because I dont have an extra one lying around right now.

    Hey,

Please bear with me, I am trying to work and post in the brief time I have between clients, I hope you will bear with me.

Re fiddling with colors options, I should have explained I didn't mean on the monitor itself, but in XP. Since the problem appears with all monitors we know the problem is in the system.

Control Panel>Display>settings tab>color quality. In the field. using the arrow to expand, what are the options you are being given?

Assuming you are given more than one, pls choose other than what the system is set to right now and follow the steps to apply the new setting.

This still feels to me like a bad videocard even though you shared you had swapped yrs out for another with no real improvement But I have no real expertise in the specifics of those.

I am sure someone will arrive who know far more about videocards than I.

I know this is a custom rig. You may need to uninstall and reinstall yr video drivers. Or even yr chipset drivers. But how the latter could have gotten messed up, I do not know. But they can.

    Check this out:

    http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-453926.html

Video drivers, or the lack thereof, or the strangeness of, ot the not quite rightness of....Product of Satan. (Played by Al Pacino.)

At least, with a commercial rig like my Optiplexes...you know everything really goes together. Of course, I have integrated video and have not upgraded and do not plan to.

Same deal with my Alienware Sentia.

I believe we need a video drivers pundit here.:( Yr video cards are not communicating normally with the monitors.

    They are suddenly...speaking in tongues.

Will be most interesting to see someone with real expertise troubleshoot this.

Clearly there is no problem with the monitor as other monitors behave in a similar manner. We need more info here ....

In your initial troubleshooting did you uninstall/update/reinstall the graphics drivers for the ATI card?

When you changed to an nVidia card did you completely remove the ATI drivers and install the nVidia drivers?

When you tried the other monitors, was it with the same cable?

Jilly : But the video drivers doesnt explain the sudden change, in the 5 hour period the computer was off it somehow changed? That doesnt make any sense. I turned it off, slept for 5 hours and then turned it back on to find it doing this, I see no possible way its the video drivers.

Pete: I did that with the ATI card, when I put in the Nvidia card I had already removed the ATI drivers from the system. The Nvidia Drivers are also up to date.

Luke: No, My Emachines monitor has a VGA plug on both ends, so I first try swapping where each end was. Then I tried a new cable altogether. The Acer and the Dell monitors both had their own cables, the Dell one being always attatched to the monitor.

Video drivers could have been corrupted on shutdown perhaps. Or some malicious code installed that required a reboot to actually execute the code?

Files can get corrupted at any time for no apparent reason, although there clearly is one.

Time to reinstall/update your chipset drivers.

    Hey.

I totally respect your pro activity, yr tenacity ad your patience.

You raise good questions the answers to which I think only PeteC in this thread is qualified to answer. My take, of course. I am still wondering about yr chipset drivers.

Am also wondering if something shorted out a port. Tho I guess that's not likely since several ports are involved here.

I see the challenge of all this for me is not being there. Remote troubleshooting. That is the miracle, I think, of this site. Cause nobody who figures stuff out for others....is there!

HANG IN...be patient. This is more like a mini series than a movie.;)

Fially, did you boot into Safe Mode and see if that changes anything???

Have you got more than one AGP slot on your motherboard? Do you have access to another computer with an AGP slot?

No to the first question and no to the second question.

Jilly, I have booted in safe mode, but it has the green/bluish tinat/hue even in the bios set up window and all the way from the beginning of start up. So there is no change in Safe Mode.

Without knowing the Make/Model No. of your mobo which is missing from your System Specs it is impossible to point you to a URL.

Either post that info here or go to the mobo manufacturer's web site and locate downloads for your board.

If it happens in safe mode though, to me it sounds like you've got a faulty AGP slot rather than chipset drivers.

Yet I can't see a motherboard name in there, or am I just blind? xD

EDIT: I'm blind, and it was lost in all the information. xD
