why was my modems orange light on...

when my computer was shut down?
ive had broadband for a long time and never have i seen that flashing orange
light stay on when the pc is shut down,never. that is the pc activity light! i know i looked to see.
oh its a motorola surfboard if thats any help. i called my broadband and asked them and they said thats okay fine lovely. i asked was it supposed to be that way flashing and it just fixed itself? they said that it didnt matter if the pc is shut down the orange light would be off. i said the pc is shut down and they said that was okay.
i really dont want my computer to be talking to anyone unless im around. to supervise.

before i posted this little complaint i found out about a modem dump and did it. so thats it. now a little info. running xp media edition no viruses spyware etc no router pc directly into modem.windows firewall off running zone alarm free. one thing i watch on-line movies with netflix and they usually have to show down movie because carrier slows down. but from now on ill just unplug the block when i shutdown or go to dsl and dish

 

I don't think you have a problem. However, to confirm this can you give us :

The make and model of your modem?

How the modem is connected to the PC (is it USB or Network for example)?

Where is orange light - on the modem itself, or next to the port you connect it into on the PC, or somewhere else.

 

the modem is model 5b5100. connected lan. the flashing orange light is on front of modem. but where the ethernet is connected to pc there is also a flashing orange light[(that i remember used to be green,but no one could tell me why it changed( dont think i posted here)] i beleive that i have an intergrated nic card (intel).

the flashing orange light on pc has been doing for a while the one on the modem is only that one time.

i shut down it goes off.

I think it will be an SB5100. You can get manuals here:

Page 8 of the manual for the SB5101 gives a description of the LEDs on the front of the unit and what they display. Does this help?

 

yep thats the light in question,flashs when transmitting or receiving data and when i turn off pc it is off. except that one time, a fluke maybe. so guess ill just wait til the next time.
