My neighbor runs Win XP on his comp...suddenly he began getting a black screen after windows go through it's start-up sequence. According to the monitor, there's still a signal that the OS is functioning. Any thoughts on this one? Thanks guys.

Have you tried another Monitor or took their monitor to your PC to see if it worked fine? Is this an Onboard video card or an add on one?

Sometimes people use an add on video card for better performance in things like games. Have them plug it into the on board just for the heck of it and see what happens.

During startup you can press (tap, tap, tap) the F8 key to go to the Startup Options Menu (where you select Safemode), select VGA Mode, if the system boots through into Windows, it means there is a problem with the graphics drivers.
