    Hello Everyone,

I have just bought a new Lenovo laptop. It came with Home Premium and Microsoft Office 2010.

I am somewhat annoyed to discover when first using the Office 2010 Word, that it is an Office 2010 starter and to use it I have to buy the darn thing.
I am writing to enquire if anyone has had the same problem, and if not, why I should have this problem. I was under the impression that 'Office' was part of a windows set-up. I have had XP which came with Office 2003. I then had Home Premium which had Office 2007 (both the former on my desk-top computer) I recently upgraded my desk-top to Ultimate which has Office 2010.

It is no longer a problem because I needed to use the Word or Text document in a hurry, so I have now downloaded Open Office.

However, I am a little disgruntled as I don't think that this should have happened in the first place. I have a little difficulty now opening my Office 2010 documents - stored on a memory stick - but I am following some online advice on how to configure Open Office to be able to do this.

So if you know the correct answer I would be grateful for an explanation.

    Thanks,

    Colinito.

Hi Colinito. Most new computers that you buy will not come with a full working copy of Office. You will have to buy a copy of Office 2010 on that machine if you want to activate it. Otherwise you can uninstall the Office 2010 Starter Edition and just use Open Office instead.

Wrong impression. Office is not part of Windows. Office does get bundled with new computers as a 'special' deal though...

OK, Many thanks. That explains it - even though it did not happen until now.

I have already removed the starter edition of Office 2010.

    I shall close the thread.

    Regards,

    Colinito.
